Antique Furniture Crating

Antique tables, cabinets, chairs, and heirlooms moved around San Jose and the Bay Area, padded or crated to fit, with marble tops, glass, and loose parts packed on their own.

Overview

Antique movers who take the fragile parts off first

Old furniture breaks differently from new furniture. Joints held with old glue loosen when a piece is lifted by the wrong part. Veneer chips at the edges. A marble top cracks under its own weight when the base flexes, and the glass in an old cabinet door is thinner than anything made today. That’s why antiques get lifted by the frame, never by the top or the arms.

So the first job is taking off what comes off. Marble tops, glass shelves, drawers, lift-off doors, and mirrors attached to dressers are removed and packed on their own. Then the piece is wrapped and padded, with its corners and edges protected. Pieces that are fragile or valuable enough get a crate built around them.

Tell us about any past repairs or loose joints when you book. A piece that has been reglued, or a leg that wobbles, gets carried differently, and we’d rather know before we lift it. Antiques can move as part of a home move or as a job of their own.

What’s included

What we move and crate

Cabinets & armoires

Doors, shelves, and glass removed and packed on their own, so the frame travels empty and light.

Tables & marble tops

Tops and leaves taken off and padded or crated upright, separate from the base.

Chairs & settees

Wrapped and corner-protected, and carried by the frame rather than the arms.

Dressers & mirrors

Drawers removed or secured, and attached mirrors packed on their own.

Heirloom & fragile pieces

Crated to fit when a piece is too delicate or too valuable for blankets alone.

Floors & doorways

Runners down and doorframes padded, so getting an antique out doesn’t mark the house around it.

FAQ

Antique moving questions, answered

Do antiques need to be crated?+

Not always. Most sturdy antiques travel safely wrapped, padded, and strapped once their loose parts are off. Crating makes sense for fragile pieces, marble and glass tops, and anything valuable enough that a single knock would hurt. Send photos and we’ll tell you which is which.

How do you move an antique with a marble top?+

The top comes off and travels on its own, padded or crated and kept upright on its edge, which is how stone resists cracking. The base is wrapped separately. Moving a marble top on its base is how both get damaged.

Will you take apart my antique furniture?+

Only what is designed to come apart: tops, leaves, shelves, drawers, lift-off doors, and attached mirrors. We don’t force old joints or hardware. If a part won’t come off easily, we pad and move the piece whole.

Do you move antiques as part of a full home move?+

Yes. Antiques can be one part of a home move, with the rest of your furniture in blankets, or a separate job for one or two pieces.

Is my antique covered during the move?+

Every move includes standard basic valuation coverage, and additional protection options are available. For high-value pieces, tell us what they’re worth when you book and we’ll go over the coverage details with you when we quote.
